Safe Sanctuary Policy
Safe Sanctuary Policy:
Assuring Staff Are Safe for Children:
Federal criminal record checks will be required for all church leaders including but not limited to pastor, elders, deacons, employees, children/youth leaders (Sunday school teachers, youth group leaders, nursery care providers, Vocational Bible School workers), and music ministry members. Once criminal record checks are completed, the applicants will be permitted to lead activities.
Assuring Children Are Managed Safely:
Two adults, as deemed necessary, will lead children’s activities. No minor is ever to be alone with an adult during any church activity without parental permission. Minors are to be released from any church activity only to the parent or legal guardian or to a person authorized by the parent or guardian. Any off site church activity involving minors shall be staffed by an appropriate number of qualified adults, per the above record check requirement.
Dealing with Situations:
Any information or allegations that a church member, attender, employee, or volunteer may represent a risk of harm to others must be reported to the pastor, an elder, or a deacon, who will then report the information or allegation to the entire board of deacons for appropriate follow up.
Managing Sexual Offenders (SO):
Any person having been convicted of sexual misconduct or molestation may only attend church service or selected church activities as long as he/she agrees with and signs a Limited Access Covenant developed by the Board of Deacons specifically for that particular individual.
Review of Policy:
This policy will be reviewed annually at the first meeting of the deacons following the annual meeting.
