Christmas Day, 2016

Dear Church,

What a worship last night! Full House! Thanks  to everyone who shared their testimonies, sang, read scriptures and helped in other ways to make it God honoring! So many non- believers heard the gospel!

As this year comes to an end how appropriate that we celebrate the coming of the Messiah, the ‘good news of great Joy’. Some of you may have had a not so good year, for some a disastrous year. Mary and Joseph had a strenuous year, everything that happened from the time the angel declared the news was not easy for them. Yet the good news remained as the good news bringing more joy and peace as they persevered in their challenges. Sometimes we don’t appreciate good news until we see it against the backdrop of bad news. Sometimes it takes a “year of disaster” to wake up and see the light that shines in the darkness. Sometimes we need darkness to see the light. The savior has come- having heard it so many times, we may be tempted to let our minds wander and say, “what’s for dinner?”. He has prepared a feast for us in the presence of our enemies, are we ready to dig in.

Merry Christmas

Dear Church,

When we suffer in a fallen world heaven gives us this promise.”our light affliction, which is but for a moment, is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory” (2 Cor 4:17). One side of our scale plummet with problems in job, family, health and wealth. Sometimes God does not remove them or eliminate our burdens but rather offsets them. With what? He puts an eternal weight of glory on the other side of the scale. With peace that defies understanding, with joy that is endless, with comfort that is eternal. At this point everything changes, the burdens are no longer burdens. That is the weight of His glory. A glory reveals in our lives when Jesus becomes the ‘Glory to God in the highest and peace to those on whom his favor rests’. May we rely on His glory revealed through Jesus our Lord rather than our glory imprinted in our carnal nature.

Jesus the Good news of great Joy for ALL the people!!!!

Dear Church,

The Magi traveled thousands of miles to see Jesus, on finding him they responded with joy, worship and gifts. They worshiped Jesus for who he was and gave him gifts of value. This is the essence of true worship- honoring Christ for who he is and give him that which is valuable to you. For the Magi it was their time, gifts and unhindered devotion. They did not seek anything in return, yet they received much more that what anything could provide!  We expect a benevolent God who has to explain himself, prove who he is and meets us at all  points of our peripheral and shallow needs. But the wise seek and worship Jesus today, even if they have to go through great suffering, not for what they can get  but for who He is…the good news of great Joy!
